Nov 12 - 19 discussion part 1

1). (Regarding chapter 11) Distinguish among a forumpanelcolloquium and symposium as a means for making a public presentation. Which one would you prefer? Why?

There are many types of places and styles associated with having to present a conclusion, finding, recommendation or summary to an audience. The forum is format where a presentation is addressed to a full audience and the audience gives feedback to the presenters. A panel is the format where a group discusses a problem in front of an audience. The speakers present a problem and a solution and then its followed by a Q and A session. The Colloquim is a format where a group discusses a problem in front of an audience and the speakers work through a problem. The moderator has the audience give on going comments and participation. If I had to choose a format for a presentation I would choose to do it in front of a panel. The style of the way it is set up is similar to how it gives the audience a chance to ask questions and reply to any questions that were proposed.

  1. I agree that the panel is a great way to get information across from the group and audience. If the group that is hosting the panel is trying to present a product or argument, then this style of public presentation definitely works. However I feel that if the audience really wanted to voice out their point, they can do that better with a forum. Atleast for the all the panels I have been too, i never really had the opportunity to ask my question since so many people are always getting called before I do. Thanks for your writeup! it was an entertaining read!

  2. i have always enjoyed panels. i always felt i was quick witted and could answer with a rebuttal that was good. I don't mind being put on the spot. i take it as a challenge to those who want to try and give me questions. i know that others don't like being put on the spot with questions so i could see where people would have a hard time with it.
i also think forums are a great way to get all the creative juices flowing. forums allow people to listen and speak, especially since most forums are open to everyone. anyone of these is great because they present ideas and get other ideas out there in different ways.
