Synergy and wholeness is a theory that people’s interactions
working together produces a greater result then the efforts of each working
alone. It took a lot of thinking and contemplating before I could agree with
the statement. I have always been a single-minded person who works best alone.
If I am in a group I prefer to get my assignment and finish on my own. This week at work we had a meeting to
develop themes and slogans for advertisements and we all sat and brainstormed.
The reason I am now a believer is I witnessed the magic that appears when four
people collaborate and build a concept from scratch. When one person thinks
alone their thoughts are lonely and unable to grow. Once you add more people
they can build on your idea or vice versa by giving you feedback or guiding you
on another route. Wholeness and Synergy is a theory that explains why groups
can become creative and succeed.
I like how you found the magic of working with small groups. Isn't it beautiful when you find others that can cooperate with you well? It can create great friendships and bonds. Synergy is an awesome factor in small groups since you can clearly see it done in team sports. When you see a football team they already designate their players by position and that's because they know about what each player is best at. Also without synergy people like Steve Jobs or Bill Gates would not have been noticed in the world of technology if they had terrible and lazy employees. The common goal found within small groups is what motivates the members and can create better bonds along with bigger and better results.
ReplyDeleteI was glad to come across this section about synergy and wholeness in chapter 2 since it gave me a better understanding of how small groups can work more effectively. It is easy for a small group to try to “collaborate” on their own and try to collectively come together. Ultimately, whatever is being collaborated on is not as connective and cohesive compared to collaborating together. I too encountered this working in an intern group over the summer. At first, we tried to work independently to save time and manpower. Ultimately, we quickly realized that it was better to work all at once together and to better communicate all the decisions and changes being made. Ironically, not working as a whole was pushing us back as a team.
ReplyDeleteHey! I am glad you talked about this topic because I found this to be pretty interesting as well. I had a hard time believing that groups do produce a better outcome than someone who works alone. I think it is because there were times when I had a bad experience working in a group and I think that I would have done better if I were alone. But I believe that synergy is a good thing because sometimes more heads are better than one. This is shown in sports team because no one can play volleyball or basketball alone, they need a team to help a player out throughout the game. Working alone has its pros but I honestly think that working in groups is so much better. Anyway, good post this week!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that working in groups are better than working alone. Gathering ideas from others will help complete group projects easily. Working alone requires a lot of time and patience. It is nice to know that there are others in the same group that can help complete the work. Furthermore, there will be times that someone completed a similar assignment. Therefore, he or she will need ideas. Collaborating plays an important role for advisement. This gives each person the time to express their ideas about the project. It is amazing what group members have to offer during collaboration.
